ok, I assume you already know about creating a YTD varaible to compute Net sales current year and previous year..
regarding calday -->create a characteristic info object with data type: numc and length :2 , then get the day alone from calday with the help of simple routine SOURCE_FIELDS-calday+6(2)
instead of calday, how about giving calmonth as input in selection screen ?
