That external pricing, I think is for the pricing on the quote. You are correct, creating the price list in C4C won't be explained in the integration guide since that's not integration issue. If you don't have it, then when you add the product to the opportunity there will be no price. When you do the request pricing, you will get the price from ERP. Is there a functional person on your project who is setting up the price list in C4C? This is not an integration topic. In the admin guide you can search for 'price list'. It describes how to set them up.
C4C

* a base price list should already be created -if not you'll need it to get some type of list price when you add the product to the opportunity. Check the admin guide for how to do this.
ERP
* Transaction code SOAMANAGER to configure the salesorderpricinginformationqu web service. Be sure to not the binding to put in HCI.
** in erp there should already be pricing conditions - VK13 - condition type PR00 - for the material you will use in the opportunity, there should be a condition where the price is less. This is already there - the web service reads the pricing condition and returns the result.
HCI
** configure the iflow - ensure the path is good to the web service in ERP

then test from C4C - create an opportunity, add a product, the list price should appear from C4C price list - then do the request pricing - it reads the web service and returns the value.
