Have you ever looked at the F4 help for customer number, there are many search help tabs and many many other fields to search for a customer. Since it is possible to search by name, even generic using * in front and behind a string this search term became almost obsolete for a search. It is displayed in old reports that were developed before the central address management was implemented with 4.5 release.
